Here’s how Leaders Turn Problems into Permissions and Cautions into Calculated Risks:
Change management is about giving people the ability to proceed
Stress / anxiety management is about giving people the power to proceed
Communications and storytelling is about giving people the language to proceed
Change Management
Leaders often think of change management as the “plan” to implement new procedures, policies, technologies or operations. But change management must also focus on the people side of change, using resources to help people engage, adopt and integrate change in their lives. This means separating the problem and processes from the person who is being asked to turn cautions into calculated risks and grow.
If leaders forget about the people-side of the equation, morale can suffer, productivity can decline, and engagement will disintegrate. This introduces stress, confusion and fatigue into the organization, and overall hinders progress of implementing the changes necessary for everyone to adapt to new circumstances. The easy part of change is the process and procedure; the harder part is leading people through change, especially the emotional impacts.
